What is the Hostel Management System?
The Hostel Management System is a web application designed to simplify the day-to-day running of student and working hostels, where room allocation, attendance, and complaints are otherwise tracked on paper. The system lets wardens register boarders, assign rooms and beds based on availability, collect rent, and record mess charges from a single dashboard. Students can apply for rooms, raise maintenance complaints, view their dues, and check notices online instead of queuing at the warden office.
The admin module keeps a live picture of occupied and vacant rooms, pending payments, and unresolved complaints so accommodation is managed efficiently and fairly. This project stores its data in Firebase, giving it real-time updates and cloud-backed storage, while PHP and the CodeIgniter framework handle the application logic and page rendering in a structured MVC layout. Role-based logins separate warden, admin, and student access, protecting personal and financial details.
Reports on occupancy, collections, and complaint resolution help management spot problems early and plan repairs or expansions. - Install XAMPP and start Apache and MySQL from the XAMPP control panel.
- Copy the project folder into
C:\xampp\htdocs\(orhtdocson Mac). - Open
localhost/phpmyadmin, create a new database and import the.sqlfile we provide. - Open the database config file and enter your database name, username and password.
