What is the Live Location Tracker App?

The Live Location Tracker App lets family members share their location with each other. Everyone in a group can see others on a map in real time.

Users get alerts when someone reaches or leaves places like home or school. Location history shows where someone has been. It is built in Android Studio with Java/Kotlin, Google Maps and Firebase.

  1. Install Android Studio and open it once so it downloads the SDK.
  2. Choose File → Open and select the project folder.
  3. Wait for Gradle sync to finish (first time may take a few minutes).
  4. Add your own google-services.json file from the Firebase console (steps are in the documentation).
  5. Connect your phone with USB debugging ON (or start an emulator) and click Run.
